Pet Shop Boys, “It Doesn’t Often Snow At Christmas”
Seems about time to post this classic.

Initial thoughts on the new Pet Shop Boys album, Elysium
- I suppose you could say the overall sound is somewhere between Behaviour and a more successful version of Release. Maybe some bits of Nightlife.
- Perhaps they should have released an edit of “A face like that” as the first single?
- I wish they’d used the HappySad mix of “Winner” for the album and used the album version for the single.
- The Los Angeles-recorded backing singers and orchestra really push a few songs closer to show tunes than ever before. If that was even possible.
- “Ego music” is “How can you expect to be taken seriously” part 2.
- If they don’t open the new tour with “Ego music”, they’ve blown a great opportunity.
- “Requiem in denim and leopardskin” is “Being Boring” part 2.
- “Everything means something” is odd but great. It’s going to end up as my grower track.
- I have to say, this may be my least favorite Farrow design work for a Pet Shop Boys album.
- After all these years, it’s great that Pet Shop Boys clearly still give a shit.
