  3. This is not a dream… not a dream. We are using your brain’s electrical system as a receiver. We are unable to transmit through conscious neural interference. You are receiving this broadcast as a dream. We are transmitting from the year one, nine, nine, nine. You are receiving this broadcast in order to alter the events you are seeing. Our technology has not developed a transmitter strong enough to reach your conscious state of awareness, but this is not a dream. You are seeing what is actually occurring for the purpose of causality violation.

  6. John Carpenter’s The Fog, 1980
Watched this last night. I’m not sure if I’d ever seen the entire film all the way through before, which is insane considering what a huge Carpenter fan I am. Perhaps not one of Carpenter’s best efforts, but still very good. It gets a bit wonky and rushed in the third act. And Carpenter movies work best when there’s a strong anti-hero anchoring the story, which this movie lacks. But the photography and camera work are excellent. Carpenter and Cundey really know how to get a lot with a little. The fog effects work really well. I don’t need to see the remake to know that CGI fog would look shitty.
Mark my words: Film students of the future will study John Carpenter as one of the great American directors.
