    i talk to a bunch of people who are really into music and really knowledgeable about it, but who never really got into following which labels put out which artists’ records. that’s a shame because i’ve always found the label that an artist is on can really explain a lot about the records they put…

    4AD, Mute, and Factory in the ’80s all taught me to start paying attention to labels. This post doesn’t touch on dance/electronic music, where the label essentially is the artist.
