Download the Margin Call score (free & legal) →
This is Nathan Larson’s score for Margin Call. After watching the film I contacted Mr. Larson asking how I could purchase the score and he was kind enough to send me these files. There is no official release planned. Recently he gave me the go-ahead to share this.
Check it out if you enjoy the soundtrack work of Cliff Martinez.

My latest for Tor.com, for their Bowie Week series.
Caught in the grip of rising future-shock, a state that William Gibson will later observe is a near-permanent condition of the early twenty-first century, Bowie doesn’t so much sing here as he screams, howls, chants, growls, and croons.

Basically, it…

– Why Does America Love Skrillex? — Vulture (via thisistheverge)
So Americans can only engage with electronic music when it’s delivered as fast, loud, rock music they can recognize. Why does it seem like electronic music only gets traction in America when it approximates arena rock? (trance,...

“…Simon’s excavation of the retro impulse from the 40s onward undercuts his thesis that retromania is a quintessential phenomenon of the present.”
I agree Reynolds appears conflicted. But I don’t agree with the above criticism that he undercuts his own argument. I read the book as claiming that, yes, the retro impulse has been present as a mode of music making...
